What should I expect from my first consultation?
First consultation is free of charge and lasts 30 min. It can take place via Skype or telephone. This session will give you a possibility to outline your individual situation and to ask any questions about my experience and my offer. You will also receive all the practical information you need to know about how the sessions works. This way you can come to a decision on whether I’d be the suitable psychologist for you.
The session is shorter in duration because it is an introductory session that is in place to ensure you are well informed about the process before committing to the counselling work. It’s completely normal to feel anxious, nervous, or unsure about your first session of psychological counselling. I am here to provide a supportive and non-judgmental place for you to discuss anything you need to.
Is the information discussed during counselling session confidential?
Yes, I guarantee that your confidentiality will be respected and that I will protect your privacy.
In order to feel comfortable talking about private issues and revealing information, you need a safe place to talk about anything you’d like, without fear of that information leaving the room.
There are rare circumstances when I would be required to break confidentiality, i.e. if you are at risk of harm to yourself or someone else or as required by laws (when I receive a court order). If either of these situations become relevant I will discuss this with you.
How long does counselling work take?
The length of the therapy is very individual. It cannot be said how long would it take before making adequate assessment and diagnosis, which can take up to 2-4 sessions, depending on your individual case and history. There are also other factors that can influence the length of counselling work, including the issues you are seeking help with, the coping strategies you already use, your support network and previous counselling you may have had. Our counselling work will be finished when you feel ready to continue life’s journey without my help.
